The Bergstrom Spur Corridor Study partnered CAMPO with the City of Austin Urban Trails Program to study the Bergstrom Spur, an abandoned rail corridor stretching roughly 6 miles from Vinson Dr. in southwest Austin to US 183 near Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The study examined options for the redevelopment of the corridor into a well-utilized, safe, and interconnected east-west multimodal corridor.
The Bergstrom Spur Corridor is identified as an important future link for connecting bicycle, pedestrian, trail, and transit networks in several local and regional plans, including:

Public Involvement
CAMPO and the City recognized the importance of robust community involvement to shape solutions outlined in the Study that reflect the needs and values of the community. There were multiple opportunities for public comment. The first comment period was held in the winter of 2019, to share information on the study and to gather input on local needs. The second comment period was held in the summer of 2020 and included proposed concepts for the urban trail and potential future transit.
A steering committee—made up of representatives from AUS, Capital Metro, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA), and the surrounding neighborhood—was consulted and provided updates throughout the planning process.
