The Regional Incident Management Study assessed the various responses to traffic incidents, such as crashes and stalled vehicles, within the six-county CAMPO region. This study also developed a strategic incident management plan designed to minimize traffic congestion created by such incidents by improving first-responder response times, traveler notifications, and coordination among jurisdictions.
Study Goals
- Reduce the impacts of incidents to travelers in the [CAMPO] Region, including reduced roadway clearance time, incident clearance time, and time to return to normal
- Reduce secondary crashes in the Region
- Provide accurate and timely traveler information to travelers throughout the Region
Regional State of Safety Report
In conjunction with the Regional Incident Management Study, CAMPO partnered with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) to complete the State of Safety Report for Central Texas.
Open Roads Policy
The CAMPO Transportation Policy Board adopted the Open Roads Policy in November 2020, the first MPO in the country to adopt such a policy. This Policy was recommended in the Regional Incident Management Study and strengthens the region’s commitment to safely and promptly clear traffic incidents from roads.
